What Types Of Eco Friendly Cabinets Are Available

By Dale Peck

Cabinets have a very prominent role in the appearance and value of several rooms in the home. They are present in the kitchen, bathrooms and many other areas. Having a nice looking cabinet will give you a good feeling for and in that room. Making sure you have eco friendly cabinets wherever you can will also give you the peace of mind where it comes to environmental concerns.

Using virgin, just cut and prepared wood to make cabinets is what a lot of people like. The beauty and natural look appeals to them. Others want to be able to reuse and recycle in order to make their home more Eco friendly. It does not have to be regular wood as the only real purpose of a cabinet is to store things and keep them out of sight.

Think about using old shelving units, especially the doors. That may be your ticket to the recycling that needs to be done. Many construction or remodeling companies in the area will have many cabinets, as well as other pieces, available for sale. These can be refinished and save valuable resources. Everyone can do this and make a big impact on the environment.

The particle board that is created from left over pieces of wood that are not large enough for anything else is also a way to go. These pieces can be used to form many different things in the construction trades. They will be the perfect fit for a cabinet or counter under a nice laminate.

One of the more popular woods used for these units is Bamboo. This fiber is grown in many areas around the world and it grows very fast. Material is trimmed off without having to chop the entire tree down. More trees are planted as the workers are trimming these which replenishes them very quickly. They grow to full maturity within eight to ten years and are planted easily.

This Bamboo will resist moisture and other weather conditions. It is very strong and can be purchased in a large range of tones and colors. The very light colors that many people see is not the only one available as it grows in the light to the very dark black. It will cover easily, however, many people do not want to do that and just let the beauty shine through.

Others are quite familiar with metal covered shelving. These can be constructed from left over material used from other applications. The strength of these shelving units should be evident. They can be painted any color that is needed and will be built with screws or bolts and nuts. This makes a stronger than usual cabinet that will last longer than other units and the savings of wood and other material will be the ultimate in recycling and reusing material.

Regardless of whether you are thinking of simply refinishing the cabinets you have or recycling others, the choice is yours. Finding a very renewable resource, such as Bamboo or particle board is also some considerations. The eco friendly cabinets that you are planning on can come from an entire host of various places and costs. The search can be exiting and informative.
