Maintenance On Golf Green Artificial Turf

By Enid Hinton

If you have just made that crucial investment of filling your golf course with artificial turf, then you do realize that this is a big investment. Despite the general fact that these grass requires little maintenance does not mean that it therefore does not need maintaining at all. You need to take utmost care of it to ensure it offers optimal service and withstands the game. The turf requires keeping clean off organic materials, trash, dirt, debris and dust particles. All these materials will negatively affect the golf green artificial turf from glowing and achieving durability.

Organic materials are some of the major materials that may result in disorder on your golf grass. Animal feces are such organic materials which decompose and often make a breeding point for weeds and the bugs. They also rot and make a mess on the lawn thus the need to clean them up. They can easily be taken out using brushes, rakes and leaf blowers.

There are various other materials that can be a challenge on the course. Leaves, birds and tree droppings, dust particles, fruits, pollen from flowers and many more will provide a challenge in the maintenance of your turf. All these materials will only prove much clean up labor is needed. To minimize this, you can relocate the bushes, trees, flowers and all other plants that shed materials to other areas rather than the golf course.

Moving all these plants is practically impossible and unhealthy. The trees, bushes and flowers are relevant in making the golf course more attractive and lively. Therefore you need to just learn on how to actively groom the turf manually. Remove the materials with rakes and brushes and then rinse the grass with water to dissolve any decay matters and sugar remains.

An interesting fact is that weeds will also attack synthetic green turf. During the laying out of the grass, a weed membrane is placed well below the grass. This membrane prevents any seed falling on the ground from getting into contact with the soil and germinating. This cannot be completely effective and thus for those weeds that succeed to germinate, you can kill them in several ways.

Purchase a post or pre emergent spray which is recommended by your manufacturer to kill the seeds before they germinate or after. A manual pressure bottle for spraying is recommended for application of liquid materials on the surface. The use of toxic and bleach products is highly discouraged as it may create a hostile environment for your players. This may also discredit your warranty.

Rinse the grass with adequate water to ensure the treatments dilute and get deep into the soil. If the field is frequently defecated, it is essential to sanitize it. Search for recommended enzymes in stores as these are safe to use on the artificial lawn.

With these various tips on maintenance, you will be able to keep your game course nourished and flourishing. It will stay neat and hence healthy for a long life. You can consult the services of an expert for monthly or semiannual maintenance services.
