Secrets Of Maintaining Oriental Rugs

By Robert Bell

The Asian community is known for making some of the best carpets in the world. They have an artistic way of making them, and it is no wonder they are used all over the world. Different materials can be used to make the mats like the wool, cotton, and silk. They can be placed in different places to ensure that they enhance the look. Here is some guidelines on how to maintain your oriental rugs in tiptop condition.

Rotate the carpet as often as possible. Most people who own a carpet say that they rotate the rug after a year or so, but this is a long time to turn it. It is important to do it after a month or so, especially if it is located in an area that has high human traffic. By doing so, the wear is evenly distributed which in turn will give the carpet a look that is uniform and one that will help to maintain the value and appearance.

If possible, do not place the mat in a place where there is direct sunlight. UV rays result in fading of your rug, and the color is one of the elements that makes the rug look beautiful. Without the natural color, then it is not as attractive and will not compliment the area as much. If you notice an area that is bringing direct sunlight, then you should block it from reaching the carpet.

The rugs are designed in such a way that fringes are at the end of the mat. The fringes can easily tangle and twist, especially with the movement of numerous people on it. It is easy to untangle the fringes without destroying the fibers; all you have to do is flip the rug over and allow the edge to straighten more naturally.

Find time to vacuum the rug as much as possible as this helps to prevent natural fibers from being packed down with excess traffic. It is advisable to ensure that the beater bar is off when you are vacuuming the mat as this will prevent the chances of having runs and tears on the delicate fibers.

Do not let spills remain on the mat as doing that will eventually develop stains on carpet stain or even make it smell bad. In case of a spill, find a dry towel and place it on the carpet so that it can take off the excess liquid. Do not use any form of detergent to clean, as it could cause damage to the material or leave a stain.

Do not put the rug directly on the floor as this could lead to wearing off at a fast rate. Use a padding underneath it to ensure that it is in a stable position. At the same time, this will help in maintaining the shape as well as the possibility of the carpet to wrinkle.

When you have moisture building up on your carpet, it could have effects that are devastating like the formation of mold and mildew growth. To prevent the buildup and presence of odor, hang the carpet outside for a few hours after every six months or anytime you notice it has come in contact with moisture.
