Ponte Vedra Beach Home Decor Suggestions And Ideas

By Larry Robinson

If you are lucky enough to own a seaside house, whether it is your primary residence or a vacation getaway, you will probably want the interior to reflect a relaxed and restful atmosphere. Most people decide to furnish their ocean homes with comfortable, casual furniture and paint walls in light, airy colors. There are a widely variety of ways you can express your style and interests with original Ponte Vedra beach home decor that will be affordable and striking.

Decorating with items that reflect your surroundings is a wonderful way to create a positive atmosphere. Driftwood is a material often found on beaches after a storm and can be picked up, treated and made into any number of interesting pieces. They can become furniture or wall hangings depending on your taste. If you are not handy, there are usually local artists displaying interesting exhibits.

Starfish designs can be fun, and there are a lot of things you could incorporate them into. Decorative pillows and rugs are always a possibility. They also make interesting shadow boxes, if you can find some good specimens to display. Arts and crafts shows sometimes have unusual artworks. Shops that support local artists are also a possibility.

Shells seem like an obvious decorating choice, but there are some unique things you can do to make the theme interesting. Upholstering chairs, sofas, or ottomans with shell designed fabric is one idea. You can always add them to vases, lamps and other small display pieces. One of the best ideas is simply to display your favorites finds in a beautiful cut glass bowl prominently placed on a mantle or shelf.

Boats are another favorite symbol of life on the water. A lot of people actually collect models, and if this is something you like to do, you can display your finds on a prominent shelf or mantel over a fireplace. There are a lot of other ways you can incorporate a boat motif into your rooms including building an informal eating area that replicates the kind you find in cabin cruisers.

Wooden clocks and signs are attractive and can be good conversation pieces. Most of them are better left in entry ways and over kitchen cabinets to keep them from becoming too much. In this case, less is usually more.

If you like whimsy, arts and crafts festivals, yard sales, and antique stores are good places to hunt for old and unusual artwork. You will probably find plenty of mermaids, wooden fish, old sailors, and fishermen statuettes that you can place strategically throughout your house. Visitors will be intrigued by your choices.

If you are lucky enough to have an oceanfront house, as a vacation retreat or permanent residence, you should really consider filling it with the art and design that brings the outside in.
