They were even believed to have magical charms. Is having your own herb garden what you are interested in? To establish an herb garden, here are some ideas to keep in mind.

How to plan your garden.

Consider the herbs you want to plant. Consider what their types are. Choose between annuals, biennials, or perennials.

You need to determine how much space they will occupy in your garden. If you want, you can purchase a book that can give you the right information on what specific plants you are planning to grow.

Listing or drawing your garden on paper is what you need to do first. If you want to avoid disturbing the perennials when the time comes to pull out the annuals, then you should separate the annuals from the perennials. You won't have a hard time when it is time to till your garden as long as perennials can be planted on the edge of your garden.

You should also keep in mind that you have to plant the shorter ones in front and the tall ones at the back. It's also important for your plants to be provided with enough space to grow. Proper position shall help you in this area.

A Few Design Ideas

Have you considered having a square herb bed? A square bed divided into four by two paths crossing at mid point that measures 3 feet is what you can have. You can border it with stone or brick. You can also use a wooden ladder as this may also do the trick. You can lay it down on your garden and plant your herbs between its rungs. Another thing you can choose to do is have a wagon wheel bed. When you plant here, it's similar to planting with the wooden ladders. Your herbs can be planted between the wagon wheel's wedges.

Tips to Get Your Plants Growing

Of course, different plants have different needs. Because of this reason, you have to determine the herbs that you want to plant in the planning stage. With this, you will more or less find out how you should care for your plants. What you need to remember with starting seeds are soil temperature and germination rules. If you see the seedlings sprouting, check the plants' air circulation, humidity and sunlight. Proper spacing should be allowed when you see some leaves appear.

Herbs are one of the plants that are easy to grow. All you have to do is provide them with enough humidity or moisture, fertile soil, an effective drainage, and sunlight. They will be bound to produce a good harvest even with just minimally meeting these requirements.
