Rethink Housing 2012

By Jay Banks

The City of Vancouver invented an impressive "solution-hunting" project, a challenge called Rethink Housing. This global competition is intended to begin a discussion about the affordable house crisis in Vancouver. The city currently faces one or two housing challenges; homelessness, a scarcity of new rental homes, and monetary strain are among the most serious. Not surprisingly, the housing issue is one of the top concerns among Vancouver residents.

"Affordable real estate is one of the hardest challenges we face in Vancouver, and we need fresh, bold thinking vis how we build reasonable options for the people that work and live in our city," claimed Mayor of Vancouver Gregor Robertson.

The Competition

"This competition is an important step to getting dynamic, maybe even arguable ideas into the general public kingdom and hearing from our citizens." As a part of the competition , community storytelling nights on the theme"There's Nowhere As Good As Home" were already held in three Vancouver neighbourhoods.

The competitions is for all of those who are interested in this subject, including pros such as designers, designers, planners, philanthropists, non-profit affiliations, and finance establishments , as well as general public. If you've an idea about the way to make the housing situation in Vancouver better, you can submit a proposal in one of two competition categories: Building Bold or Vibrant Neighbourhoods.

Building Bold

This category aims to bring leading edge concepts for large-scope projects. Some of the main areas of interest in this classification include questions such as: "What else can be done to meet the housing requirements of Vancouver residents?" "How can the city use its transit lines, land, and properties owned by a public body while creating chances for better living?" and "How are we able to involve 3rd parties in the project?"Winning projects will be announced in 2 streams inside this category: Building Bold: Public Land and Building Bold: Private Land (mixed submissions should be proposed in the public stream).

Vibrant neighbourhoods

Ideas in this specific category should describe innovative ideas that create reasonable housing options at an area level. These ideas are predicted to reflect more on choice, connection, and communities. Are our housing selections made today at least like those we will need to make in the future? How does our housing change in relation to modern lifestyle and city growth? How do we build affordable housing in our neighbourhoods and sustain it? Are there any inspiring, new types of housing that work some place else but haven't been attempted in the town?
