A Brief Introduction To Artificial Turf A.K.A Fake Grass

By Fernando Petite

Fake lawn is very popular and its popularity has been increasing since it was first made available. Artificial turf was introduced during the 1960s and has been used in a lot of different ways. It is true that this kind of grass was originally used only on sports fields, however as time has passed, its applications have expanded.

artificial turf lawns are now found not only in stadiums but in private gardens and other outdoor areas used for both recreational and commercial reasons.

It is rather obvious that owning a fake lawn instead of a real one has some clear benefits. Consider the fact that real grass does have a tendency to turn brown, and needs considerable effort if you want it to look great throughout the year. With a fake lawn, on the other hand, you do not have to be a natural gardener, or devote a lot of time, in order to have a lovely looking lawn. No matter which option you prefer, the fact of the matter is that both fake and real grass have certain advantages and disadvantages. Take a look at the pros and cons that come with lawn you choose, whether real or fake:

Two of the main reasons why so many opt for a fake lawn are that it is cheaper and less time consuming to maintain. When you have a fake lawn you do not have to worry about mowing it, watering it, and fertilizing it. What is more, they do not require various products to maintain them, meaning that you ultimately save money. But it is not just because fake lawns cost less over time, and require none of the hard work and effort that a real one does. These artificial lawns are also great for those that are environmentally conscious. The great thing about them is that you do not need any kinds of chemicals or pesticides. The drainage system is excellent, and it dries very quickly as well. Drying faster is great because you would normally have to wait a lot longer for real grass to dry. Artificial turf has been popular on sports fields because it is not only even but also consistent, which means that players are not prone to as many injuries. All in all, these are good reasons to choose artificial grass.

The Real Deal

On the other side of the coin are those that point out that installing fake grass is considerably more expensive than installing real grass. In fact, installing artificial grass can be a rather expensive undertaking. Also, do not think that a fake lawn does not require any kind of work to keep them looking their best. For one thing, repairs are going to be required. Saying that fake lawns do not need to be watered is only half true, because they will need to be cleaned from time to time. When it comes to the use of artificial grass on sports fields, some players complain about how hot it can get if the weather is warm. Naturally, if the turf is too warm, the player's abilities are going to be affected.
