Top Tips For Gardening Success

By Garth Imming

You probably already know how gratified a garden can make you feel. If any of your buddies have gardens, you have likely noticed how much they love to work in them. You may have a couple of plants growing in your home that you like tending to. You finally have the time and need to plant a garden to tend to. Planting your first garden can happen without too much fuss. It's a pretty simple task. Although depending on the size and type of garden you want; you could be looking at a little more intense plan of action. As you read on we will give you some great suggestions on growing and maintaining a happy, healthy garden.

Help an experienced gardener in her garden for a while. Romanticizing gardening is easy when you haven't tried it out before. Honestly, gardening is hard work and if you don't know anything about it, it gets quite a lot harder. When you help a gardener in his or her own garden, you will get a good feeling about the activity so that you can get some firsthand experience with it and decide whether or not it really is something that you would like to do. When you spend time working you can decide if you actually enjoy working with the plants and caring for them or if you simply like to have pretty flowers in the house.

Do your best to be green. There are a lot of chemicalized garden "helpers" out there. So many things contain chemicals now: fertilizer, growth helpers even the soil you buy. True, these can be quite useful but their organic counterparts are even better. Organic is always better. In addition to being safer for our planet, they are also safer for you to handle. You make things much safer for your family (including your pets) when you choose the organic alternatives. They're better for your garden plot. Particularly for a new gardener they are more expensive but the expense is really worth it.

Local and natural is the way to go with plants. This doesn't mean organic or "green" planting methods. We mean that you should choose plants that are native to your current location. When your local area is damp and rainy you don't want to attempt to grow plants that require dry and hot climates for survival. You're going to have a terrible time growing something that needs lots of rain and very little direct sunlight when you live in the desert. When you are getting your start, you should stick with the plants that grow naturally where you already live. When you do this it is a lot easier to garden.

There are all sorts of things that go into starting a garden of your very own. Of course, you can simply scatter some seeds in your backyard and see which ones sprout, but that's not really the right way to go about gardening. When you take the necessary steps to ensure that your garden is healthy, it won't be long before you'll be reaping the benefits. Remember these tips because they can help you to finally have that garden you've been wanting for a long time.
