How to Design Teen Bedrooms

By Brian Callahan

During their youth, teenage bedrooms are very important to them as they grow and mature into young adults. Their middle school and high school years lay the foundation of who they likely may become. There is much more that meets the eye to decorating teenage bedroom than just their bed or desk.

Bedrooms for Teenagers

Teens are pretty vocal about what they want in their bedroom and will let you know immediately if something is not to their liking. They need space for keeping their books, CDs, and collections of numerous items which take up a lot of space.

Usually teens will be pretty confident in the type and style of furniture they want in their rooms such as their bed, TV stand, lounge chair, etc. Do not lose your power as the parent and let their fantasies of an ultra-expensive room get the best of you.

Uses for their Bedrooms

For a teen, his/her bedroom is a safe haven and most of their indoor time is spent in the bedroom. Mostly they entertain their friends and together surf the net or just hang out, talk over the phone and relax. The bedroom is the center of the teen's life.

Teen Bedroom Furniture

The importance of the furniture for the teen's room cannot be understated. They need to be comfortable whether they are sleeping, sitting in a chair, studying at their desk, whatever the task may be.

You can check out various websites that have hundreds of designs for a teen's bedroom that will create a complete space of their own. If the bedroom is to their liking, they may even put in the time to keep it clean to impress their friends.

Cupboards for their Room

Cupboards are very important as it provides a place for them to place their clothes and organize accordingly. Drawers and cupboards are definitely an important part of their bedroom furniture. If possible, try to have the cupboards match and blend in with the rest of the room.

Carpets

A stylish rug can do wonders for their room. When they are blaring music or video games you will be glad they have a rug to partially absorb the sound. Definitely get a rug that is a color in which spilled food or drinks will not take forever to clean up.

Blinds

More than anyone, teenagers value their privacy and do not like people peeping into their bedrooms. Beautiful curtains or blinds will ensure their privacy and will also make the room seem properly decorated and maintained. Buy curtains that match the furniture in the bedroom.

Teenagers need to feel that their bedroom is their safe zone and a great way to spice up the decor of their room is through the furniture. Don't forget that when they are grounded this is where they spend all of their time. Ensure that you work with your teen in designing their bedroom.
