Information On Foam For Cushions Manufacturing

By Kenneth Wesley

Some furniture items, as well as their enhancers, are built to provide comfort for everyone who utilizes them. The comfort element in these furniture pieces and aids is created by a particular type of material that is designed specifically for that purpose. Therefore, the same material used in items such as chairs, sofas, and mattresses, is the same foam for cushions manufacture.

A cushion can be built for the purpose of decorating a sofa seat, or it could be utilized as a buffer between the human back and a solid surface. It is even possible for a cushion to be exclusively designed for boat usage. The many varieties of purposes that cushions can serve, may give rise to their many varied appearances, according to what customers desire.

It is possible for a cushion to be made in the shape of a square, triangle, wedge, circle, cylinder, or letters like L and T. The shapes most commonly used, however, tend to be squares and circles, but unique shapes may be found on matching boat seats. Customers are usually encouraged to submit diagrams of the cushions they desire, complete with exact measurements and specific instructions for manufacture.

Foam may be cut thick or thin, depending on its intended end product, in terms of usage or purpose. The reason for this is that thinner materials tend to produce softer furnishings. Therefore, if a cushion is to be cuddled, its foam usually will be thinner than for the one providing back support, for example.

It appears, also, that there are different types of foams, and each variety has its unique properties. For example, foams may consist of open cells or closed cells, and these have implications for their end products. Foams that have closed cells are more bouncy or springy, and resistant to liquid penetration, while open cell foams are softer and more pliable.

Comparing these two kinds of foams, each with the other, appears to show certain advantages of the one over the other. For instance, it appears that more can be gained from utilizing foams having open cells than the ones sporting closed ones. This is shown by the soft, breathable, and conformable properties that are unique to open cells.

Nevertheless, if the desire is to produce a cushion that is light in weight, with the ability to be washed, then foam with closed cells is preferable. This is so, since those are the main advantages of those types of foams. Notwithstanding, some manufacturers seem to specialize in foams with open cells, as these appear to have an added advantage of durability. This implies that cushions produced with these types of foams would have a longer span of usage.

In order to source specific foam for cushions, a few things require consideration. The varied purposes for which a cushion can be used, may give rise to foams capable of fulfilling those needs. Various kinds of foams have a variety of properties, and the properties cause variations in the furnishings that can be produced in a number of qualities, shapes, and sizes.
