Decorative Concrete Is An Asset To Any Property

By Ronald Green

Using concrete to pour a driveway will add property value and raise the resale price in the future. Plan it to be as narrow or wide as the homeowner chooses. It will be more functional than other surfaces. When you use decorative concrete the entry way to your home will be impressive.

The plain gray surface can be enhanced by color or have a border that looks like row of bricks. The tinting can be soft or bright as the homeowner prefers. For example, a home with green shutters and roof can have a green driveway to the garage.

In Kansas City MO there are many houses that feature fancy sidewalks leading to the front porch. They may also wind through yards full of beautifully blooming flowers. A garden path matching the pattern and hue of the patio gives a distinctive appearance to the property.

Walking through the garden will be enjoyed without worrying about walking in mud during the rainy season. It will be convenient after a rainy night. Raised flowerbeds make gardening more convenient, especially for older people.

Raised flowerbeds are often made using this decorative material to match the walkway. It too can be tinted to match the color of the home. Stamped concrete is another attractive possibility.

This process involves pressing a form into the surface before it dries. It can look like brick in a herringbone pattern or a random pattern. Larger segments can be enhanced by adding a swirl pattern in the surface.

A patio surface might be made to look like individual red bricks. It can be poured in any number of shapes and sizes. A protective finish can be applied after drying. Put a row of solar lights along one side to give the surface a glow after dark.

Stained concrete is another way to obtain a designer look. The color choices are endless. Two types of staining are done. One is acid and the other is water based. Ask the contractor to show samples of how the color looks on actual concrete. Custom color may be requested.

Interior floors are attractive when stained. Rich color will have a variegated look and a shiny patina when finished. Until recently all was done in earthy tones. The choices have been extended to the blues, the greens and even the bright yellows and oranges.

A higher number of hues are available in the water based stains. Orange and yellow are found as well as black and white. The most discerning homeowner will find something that he likes. Many distinctive colors are available with acid staining.

Imagine a room with an acid stained floor in a deep blue color. Paint the walls white and the contrast will be amazing. It will provide the perfect showcasing for furniture in the French provincial style. Add a white throw rug for a lovely contrast.

The possibilities are endless for outdoor or indoor pouring. Have a patio adjacent to a recreation room with the same floor pattern. Choose a front porch and sidewalk in the same pattern and color. Make your home attractive on the outside to welcome guests to the interior.
