Advantages Of Using Brazed Tools

By Cynthia Young

There are many ways of combining two pieces of metals. You can do it by soldering or you can do it by welding. However, another process that is being used is known as brazing. It can be done by using a filler metal known as braze. When bonding the two metals, the filler is inserted between the gaps or the joint. After it is cooled down, the bond will be very strong. It even is stronger than the base metals.

The brazing process is very much similar to soldering. The only difference is the metals used and the temperatures. Different kinds of metals can be joined together as long as they fit nicely and without any large gaps. The use of brazed tools is very common among many metal craft shops today. Even in the industrial and automobile area, these are commonly used.

Before bonding the pieces together, some steps are to be done. The number one thing to do is to clean the metals that are to be joined. It is crucial that it be cleaned properly for the bond to be strong. After doing so, applying flux on the surface is needed. Using flux is one way to limit some oxidation on the metals during the brazing process. Not only that, the joined pieces will be a lot smoother.

When you think about the advantages of brazing, there are actually plenty of them. Unlike welding and soldering, its main advantage is that it can easily bond metals that are not the same, as well as non metal parts. While with welding or soldering, combining two different metals is very hard. You can easily join steel or copper or other kinds of metal for that matter.

Strength is another benefit one can get from brazing. When two objects are bonded together using this method, it can be quite impossible to break because it can absorb tremendous amount of shock or vibrations. Not only that, almost anyone can do this process because it is simple. There is no need for many other components for someone to do the process.

One can find readily available filler metals for this process. The cool thing about it is it comes in various forms. There are powders, paste, strips, wires, rods, flux-coated forms, and preforms. Depending on the need, one can easily find what is suitable to use. There are also several dealers that are selling these kinds of products so it is not that hard to find the right stuff.

While this process is not widely used as compared to welding and soldering, its popularity is growing due to the fact that many manufacturers are in search for alternative methods in joining metals together. It also cost less and the post cleaning is a breeze. That fact that brazing is simpler and easier, the use of this process is increasing in rate.

Over the years, newer methods and technologies have been used. Although the brazing method is not that new, you will notice the materials that being used today are more advanced and vast in numbers. This allows people to do the process a whole lot easier and faster for a cheaper cost.
