Credit Unions & Vital Questions That Robert Jain Can Answer

By Jason McDonald

"What's a credit union, anyway?" Simply put, a credit union is a type of cooperative that's designed for financial reasons. Unlike banks, however, unions are run and operated by its members. This is one of the major reasons why people are attracted and continue to work with them to this day. Of course, this is just a small degree of the information that can be provided by reputable minds in finance, Robert Jain included.

"Are credit unions the same as banks?" While these institutions share similarities, including the ability to take out loans, credit unions and banks aren't interchangeable. One of the most notable contrasts is that banks work for a profit while credit unions don't. Furthermore, banks are largely supported by shareholders while unions are run by members. These are just a few reasons why these names differ.

"Are there requirements to become a member?" In order to become a credit union member, according to names like Bob Jain, there are a few factors to take into consideration. First, you should ask your employer if you can join a union they may sponsor. Second, ask a family member if they're part of a union, as this may help you join as well. These are just a few factors but it's easy to imagine that they will go a long way in terms of helping you obtain membership.

"How involved can I be in my credit union?" One of the many benefits of being a member of a credit union is that you can become involved in your union's growth. If guidelines are being rewritten or readjusted, for instance, you can actually vote on them. What this means is that if there are certain rules you believe to be inconducive to the organization, you can speak up. Your voice, along with those of other members, will be heard.

"How can I find a credit union I may want to work with?" Now that you know a little bit about credit unions, you may be curious to know where you can find one. Credit unions tend to work on local levels, but it's likely that you can find one within driving distance. Furthermore, many of them offer ATM and drive-through options, which means that you may not have to leave your car at all. This is another great benefit that should be recognized.
