The Power Of Tradelines In Credit Scores

By Robert Ross

The credit score of a person is extremely important because it allows him or her to get loans or other financial benefits. Of course, good credit score comes with effort. Every account that your credit score carries has a tradeline or a history with details of each account. Knowing this, it is actually possible to use the power of multiple tradelines in order to improve credit rating.

The immediate conception of people with regard to having a good credit score is keeping accounts to a bare minimum. This is a wrong conception and will actually make people look like they do not have enough money to afford debt. So the principle of keeping debt is not to keep it to a minimum but to manage each tradeline responsibly so that it the credit score will stay intact.

One of the most important things to do is to never close old credit card accounts. For those who have old credit card accounts that are hardly used, just keep it there. If one would want to have a boost in the credit score, it is essential that one preserves good debt even if it means not using a credit line and just leaving it be.

One still does need to pay for it though so it may also be good to use the credit line from time to time. If one really does not care much for it, then he or she can just use it for one or two purchases in an entire month so that it looks like good credit. Take note that the credit score is based on good debt versus outstanding debt so a diligently paid tradeline will help.

Another thing that one can do to improve credit rating is to report rent payments. Most likely, landlords will not be able to report rent payments since only official credit reporters can do that. So an alternative course of action would be to seek help from a credit reporting agency and let them be the one to do the reporting. This officially makes rent payments a tradeline for credit rating.

Do the same thing for all the good loans present. Some of the loans like business loans with a partner, may not be reported to the credit bureaus, especially if majority of the loan is handled by the partner. Still, it is important that one still gets an agency to report the loan so that it will be added to the credit history.

Finally, one has to make sure that each tradeline is not spiraling out of control. One of the ways to do that is to correct all the errors or inconsistencies for each account. A good example would be an erroneous charge that was reported to the credit bureau as a bad debt.

For those who are wondering, these are some of the ways an extra tradeline can help with credit score. Take note that getting extra credit should not be avoided. It should just be handled intelligently and responsibly so that it will not spiral out of control until a mountain of debt pile up.
