The Best Way To Utilize Cat Enclosures To Prevent A Cat From Scratching

By Dawn Riley

A number of cats really love to scratch themselves. The explanation for this behavior is strictly in-born in nature. They generally do it to halt their claws from growing very long. If you do have a cat at home you may use your cat enclosures in the backyard to assist your cat prevent scratching.

Ernie is my outdoor cat. I felt like declawing him could prove very painful as he is such a fragile animal. What I have done rather than declawing would be to set several scratching posts inside his cat runs along with his outdoor cat house. This may provide him with the best place from which he could take pleasure in his instinctive behavior without injuring himself or perhaps the furniture.

The scratching posts I selected were nearly the same as the types he loves to scratch with. For example, Ernie really likes scratching the carpets and so I was able to find an internet based store that sells scratching posts that are coated with carpet like material. Ernie likes to sometimes go indoors to play with a bit of left over string.

A few things I did to avoid him scratching the furnishings is to apply some scratch deterrent spray in the places which he loves the most. Scratch deterrent atomizers can also be found online and are quite risk-free. They make it very annoying for your cat to scratch those places and will be discouraged from doing so.

I additionally discovered some other interesting ways to keep his mind away scratching. I did it through giving Ernie with some extra toys as well as enough diversion within the cat enclosures to help him prevent as much as possible his habit. I setup a bird feeder just outside his cat runs and just far enough so that it keeps away from his reach. In this way he can get adequate diversion from working to snatch the birds eating on some rice.

For me, if you leave your cat induced enough he'll probably find other ways to amuse himself as opposed to just scratching.
