What Is The Best Carpet Cleaner Solution

By Erin Hankins

Finding the best carpet cleaner solution that kills odors without damaging your carpet is something we all search for. We have all heard the "old wives tales" from friends, family, and even infomercials. All we have learned from all this information is that there is no perfect carpet cleaner solution. Here are a few tips to help you in your search. If you are not careful you can ruin your carpet while trying to save a few bucks. So the best tip could be to experiment with a few ideas first, and do not try any radical ideas as this could ruin your carpet.

Ammonia is an all-purpose cleaner. You will find that no matter what you are trying to clean, someone will probably suggest ammonia. This can be a good cleaner and long as you use it sparingly and with precautions. The biggest precaution is NEVER mix ammonia and bleach together; this will create toxic fumes that can have harmful medical side effects. Be sure to have plenty of ventilation in the area that you are cleaning.

Baking Soda is probably the best carpet cleaner solution for pet stains and odors. If you are looking to save some money, and help save the environment, then use baking soda for removing stains and odors from your carpet. It is very simple to do, sprinkle some baking soda on the carpet and then lightly mist the carpet with hot water. If it is a stubborn stain, then apply a generous amount of baking soda and scrub with a stiff brush. Leave the baking soda to dry and soak up the odors and stains and once it is completely dry, just vacuum up. Rinse the area with water and use a wet van to remove all the moisture.

Club Soda and Salt is a well known "old wives tale" that has been proven to work. It is pretty simple, crush some salt into the stain and pour on some club soda. Leave it until it is completely dry and then vacuum to remove the debris and give it one final rinse. Let dry and the stain should be gone.

Clothing Detergent is something just about everyone has in his or her home. Take a small amount of detergent and pour it over the stain. Scrub in with a stiff brush and rinse. Let dry and then vacuum the area to remove any debris that may have been loosened up by the scrubbing.

The biggest problem people face when trying to clean their carpet is that they only clean their carpets once a year. If you will do simple cleaning once a month with a simple mixture of ammonia, baking soda and vinegar, you can keep your carpet looking and smelling fresh year round.
