In Kitsap Hydroseeding Gives A Healthy Green Lawn

By Claire Bolton

In Kitsap hydroseeding allows home-owners to enjoy healthy, green lawns all year round. This is a process which involves applying a thick slurry of seed, fertilizer, mulch and water to prepared soil. The mixture provides the perfect environment for germination of seeds and erosion control. The right contractor needs to be chosen to ensure that the best possible service is received.

The reason that this process provides such quick growth is because the mulch protects the seeds and keeps them moist. The mulch may be made from a paper or wood product or a mix of both. Many contractors prefer to use a pure wood mulch. Tackifying agents can be added to the mulch in areas which are subject to erosion.

The seeds used by contractors will be chosen according to the conditions and requirements of the area where the lawn is to be installed. The weather conditions, type of soil and whether the terrain is flat or sloped all need to be considered. Some contractors will even custom spray the right seed for different areas.

Some contractors only deal with large contracts while others do smaller jobs. The equipment suitable for a small residential garden will be different to that used for a large project. You need to make sure that your contractor has the equipment best suited to your project.

As with all planting, the correct preparation of the soil is vital for a good result. Contractors may use different methods of preparation to achieve the same results. Any rocks and debris need to be removed. A weed killer is usually used about ten days before the lawn is installed. Topsoil is often used, especially where soil is full of sand or gravel. The end result is a surface which is smooth, lightly compacted and contoured to the desired shape.

Care of the new lawn is very important, particularly for the first month. Most companies provide detailed instructions on watering, mowing and fertilizing. As this lawn grows very quickly, it may need to be mowed after about three weeks. Avoid mowing too early as the roots need to be established. Watering regularly is very important and it is often worthwhile to install a sprinkler system before the lawn is installed as this will ensure even, regular distribution of water.

Some weeds are bound to appear as these seeds grow more quickly than grass. The seeds of weeds may be concealed in the top soil or they may be blown in from adjacent areas. Do not worry about this or attempt to use a weed killer as these weeds usually disappear as the grass becomes established. If you use a weed control product at this stage the grass may react severely to the chemicals and die.

In Kitsap hydroseeding costs far less than installing a sod lawn. It is about one-fifth the cost of sodding and is even cheaper as the size of the project increases. The results are very uniform and any smooth lawn can be covered evenly. With the addition of a tackifier, even steep slopes can be sprayed successfully.
