Pocket Door Frame As Space And Budget Saver

By Anita Ortega

In our homes, we always want a much bigger space especially when our family is growing and we need more rooms to accommodate each member of it. There are some techniques that you can follow. To have a bigger space, you may also do something with your doors since most of the time they are the ones who make use of big spaces when opened. A good idea would be a pocket door.

You can hire some carpenters to do it for you if you have enough budget, but if you are saving for something else but also badly needs it to be done, you may check the steps here. One thing you must prioritize would be purchasing a pocket door frame. You need to double check if it is of good quality and condition before buying it. Before proceeding, make sure that the following has already been removed like plates, studs and sills.

The first thing you have to do will be to attach the split studs. It is where the door is going to run through. You need them both at the top part and the header of your frame. You will also be needing a new drywall that will serve as a cover up. Once you are ready to hang it the drywall make sure that the suds are opened.

Next would be the installment of the brackets. This will be the one that will be holding the frame. Try to check if it properly works by sliding its wheels back and forth. See if it operates just fine.

Next will be attaching the frame to the wheels. To do this, clip the brackets to the pins and extend them to the wheels. After doing so, do not miss to install the guide at the bottom of it so it will operate without rubbing.

Time to put up the pulls. Every pull sold anywhere comes with its framing kit. You may also add some more accessories to it if you want but you just have to make sure that it will not affect how everything functions. It should also be installed inset of the 2 sides of the door. After putting it in, check whether or not it is blocking the whole operation.

To cover up the area where you installed the pulls you must have your new drywall. It should be able to cover the back area of the open pocket. Make sure you have everything needed to do so.

Now get ready for installing the trim. Measure it and then cut. If you need to double check the measuring, do so because it really has to be accurate. Then, you are ready to install it around the door. Always start at the top then to the jambs. The most appropriate nail size to use would be 2 x 4s since the longer ones might damage the whole thing. If you use the longer nails, it might cause scratches whenever you open and close it.

This is absolutely a brilliant idea. Aside from not having to deal with fingers trapped in between doors, you no longer have to give a certain measurement as space for it. Just make sure you have everything needed for it, then you are good.
