Tips On Lawn Care Practices

By Anita Ortega

When looking for information on lawn maintenance property owners will need to identify tips that can help them get the most out of their yards. This is possible by identifying secrets that can be used in making sure that proper lawn care practices are followed allowing for a healthy yard. Mowing forms the first category that has to be dealt with.

Ensure you do not mow too low as this may have a negative effect on yards. Yards that are trimmed at very low levels will usually respond by growing very fast. When this type of response is received, it will mean that grass has to be mowed again and again.

Property owners will need to ensure they do not mow yards that are too wet. A saturated yard will compact the soil when a mower is used. This in turn leads to the death of grass as bald spots are left all over.

Always ensure you mulch the clippings back in to your yard. Do not collect the clippings but instead let them lie where they fall. When mulching, you not only eliminate all the bugging and dumping trips, but you will also let the clippings fertilize the soil.

Irrigation is the second category that must be considered when it comes to lawn maintenance. Water application must be performed in a particular way. You cannot apply too much water as this will make the roots to grow shallow. Infrequent watering is also highly recommended.

Ensure you do not water the yard during night time or in the evenings. The soil tends to retain all the water as little or no evaporation is experienced at night. With this in mind, make sure you only water during the early mornings so as to make it possible for evaporation to occur.

All yards require fertilizer for them to work properly. When applying fertilizer, it is important to ensure that you ensure too much is not applied. Application of too much will have a negative effect in that growth will be stimulated meaning that more mowing must be done.

Home owners should ensure they only use on type of fertilizer. If you choose to use synthetic, ensure you do not mix it with the natural kind. Both of these will have very different types of nutrients. Each season will also require a different type of fertilizer to be used.

Pest control is very important when it comes to maintaining your yard. When it comes to maintaining pests, the secret is to ensure you grow a very thick turf. The turf can be used to eliminate pests, diseases and weeds. These are items that can pose a serious danger to the health of any yard.

Herbicides are commonly used by home owners when it comes to management of weeds. There are usually two main types of herbicides. There is the pre-emergent and the post emergent. The former prevents weeds from germinating and the latter is used to control the grass pests. Ensure you choose your herbicides very well.
