I Thought That I'd Hate This Move

By Laura Hawn

I have always hated moving. As a kid, we'd barely stay in one place for over a year. Just when I would start to think "Yeah, this is my home," mom or dad would get another job somewhere else or we'd have to move to stay in the changing school district. It got to be so bad that I would start leaving almost all of my stuff in boxes just to avoid wasting time for the next move that I knew would come.

I'd only unpack things I needed, like blankets, clothes, and a few select toys. As I got older, I dreaded moves. I hated moving to my college dorm, I hated moving to my first apartment with my room-mate, and I hated moving back home when mom got sick.

There seems to be a family tradition; in every single move, we wind up losing something. It might have been a toy, a tape, a DVD, a blanket, a shirt anything; but at least one thing was always lost in the move. That was another reason I never liked the moves. The last time we moved as a family, we moved to NYC, and mom searched for "NYC movers." That was years ago, and we were only in N.Y.C. for a couple of months.

Now, I find myself needing to move back to New York, for work. So I've gone online and looked up "movers NYC." Pages and pages of results turned up, and, not actually expecting that I would like this move one way or the other, picked the first company that jumped out at me; Ben Hur Moving & Storage.

I clicked on it, and the page that turned up was really easy to utilize. I got a quote online, and booked an appointment for them to come out, expecting them to be three or four hours late, as has always occurred with movers in my experiences. To my great surprise, they arrived early, helped me finish packing the boxes, and got everything on the truck pretty fast. When I got to my new house and unpacked my stuff, I found, again to my great surprise, that nothing whatsoever was missing! This was the first time this had ever happened, and I know thatmovers played a very sizeable part in that. So, I ended up not hating this last move, all because of the great movers I hired.
