Keepsakes That Make Memories Can Include Rain Chains Available Near Garden Tool Sets

By Elmer D. Ogren

Rain chains can be discovered where garden tool sets are available, and would make a very exclusive gift for someone special. Rain chains have been found for centuries, and make very beautiful outdoor accents for a garden. Many residences have traditional closed gutter downspouts, and rain chains are great alternatives that are also functional. Rain chains guide the rain water down the chains from the roof, and through the cups to the ground, making a beautiful water feature. Sloping roofs that permit the water to run off can also use rain chains, even if there is no gutter. Always check your roof to see exactly how the water runs off, before you start to install a rain chain on a roof with no gutter.

A relaxing, beautiful water rain chain can be used to easily transform a plain rain water downspout into a outdoor water feature. Depending upon how hard it is raining, you will hear soft tinkling sounds from gentle rain, and the rush of white water when it is raining harder. The rain chains are also elegant, unique outside accents, because on sunny days the sun glistens on the beautiful chain and rain cups.

Some rain chains are made with cups, and some are made with bowls, depending upon the type of look you want for your yard. Rain chains have changed home and garden decor, especially for people that spend a lot of time outdoors, or people that are always looking for that unique accent for the garden.

For centuries, rain chains are actually used by the Japanese people to collect rain water for drinking. The Japanese have always used their roof to collect water. Rain water is transported through rain chains from the roof, following the chains, down the cups gently to the earth. Rainwater is used in Japan as household drinking water, and is collected by putting large barrels underneath the rain chains to collect water once it rains.

Chain is used for rain chains in South America, because it is easier to acquire, than the conventional machined closed rain gutters that are used in America. Stoneware jugs or ceramic pots are regularly used in Japan, to place underneath the rain chain, so it can fill with rain water. To keep the rain from making a hole in the ground you can place rocks, stones or even a tile that you find in the garden tool sets area of the garden center, to place below your rain chain.
