A Lot Can Be Said With Flowers

By Adriana Noton

Whether they are planted out in the garden, spotted while on a walk through a meadow, or freshly cut and delivered to the door, flowers generally make everyone smile. There are flowers that grow in every climate and in every season. And, some have become symbolic for love, friendship, health and cheering up.

You do not need a special occasion to send them. Like sending a card, they can be sent to let someone simply know you are thinking of them. A small bouquet can say a lot. A single rose handed to someone can, too. Yellow generally represents friendship. Red tells of love.

They do not have to be purchased, either. Freshly, hand-picked bouquets from the garden are wonderful. Spending time in that garden may be even better. What a delight to have a couple of chairs and a small table surrounded by a variety of flowers and to sit and sip on some lemonade while taking in the beauty.

Many mothers have treasured a flower or two, handed to her by her child who just picked them, even if they are a weed-type flower, it does not matter. Often the first of this type of bouquet will be squeezed between the pages of a book and placed in a memory box.

Traditionally a corsage is given on prom night. They are also given to the mother of the bride and groom at a wedding. But, they can be given anytime without that special occasion. And what a surprise she will have when she opens that special box on date night.

Generally, they are given to women. From men to women and women to women. But, men like them, too. Sure it might be a bit embarrassing for a man to receive a delivery of them at work, but long after the blush is gone, the thought will linger.

They are, of course, uplifting during a time of grief as well. While often sent to those who have crossed over the rainbow bridge, they so meaningful to the family and friends of that person. Some will be left at a gravesite. In fact, pedals are often buried with those who are deceased. But, many bouquets are taken home with the family who realize how much people care.

Often when thinking of sending them, a cut arrangement is chosen. But, living plants that may or may not flower are a wonderful gift that can live on. They may be kept inside the house, or planted out in the garden to be enjoyed for years to come. If the plant blooms, it will probably bloom at the same time every year with a reminder of thoughtfulness, friendship and love.

A flower bouquet may be given for just about any reason, or no real reason at all. Flowers are available all most anywhere and can be ordered on the internet or over the phone. They can also be purchased at the neighborhood market or, of course, a flower shop. They can be given to the neighbor next door or a friend across the ocean. It is a reminder that you care, whether a special occasion or not.
