The Benefits Of Installing A Pocket Door Frame

By Jerri Perry

There isn't a home that doesn't benefit from having several doors. These partitions provide privacy and divisions that are absolutely necessary to everyday life, and they are also beautiful. Unfortunately, one of the biggest problems they have is that they get in the way. They require clearance in order for them to be opened or shut. Thankfully, there is a solution which comes when installing a pocket door frame.

Used extensively in the past, these privacy offering partitions would slide away and vanish from sight. Installed on a special track, known as the pocket door frame, they can be pulled out of the wall to close off the room, or pushed back in to keep the space open. These were ideally used in the past for heating and cooling purposes, according to the temperature.

During the cold winter months, people would slide them closed, maintaining the ideal temperature within the space. Imagine how the fireplace heated room can retain its warmth, when it isn't spread throughout the home, in rooms that aren't being used. Alternatively, during the warm summer months, they were pushed out of sight to provide a breeze.

The constant airflow, with the doors virtually nonexistent and the windows open, provided comfort to those inside. That's why they were extremely popular in Europe, especially, but even in other parts of the world. Thinking back to how homes were often smaller in the past, these doors often provided the solution to furniture placement, as they never interfered.

That meant that furniture can be pushed right up against the doorways without having to worry about traffic flow. For many reasons, pocket doors lost their luster, with the main one being their cost. They simply weren't cost-effective for modern day construction, but they are witnessing a huge popularity surge once again.

The truth is that people today are realizing just how special and useful they really are. They notice their convenience and how their space-saving effect is just as purposeful in modern times as it was back in the day. Today, they are a common sight in upscale homes, as they are more costly than regular doors, however even regular builders are starting to implement at least one such doorway in newer build homes.

In the past, it wasn't uncommon to have a track that was difficult for door to glide a long, but that has been corrected. Today, they are quieter and smoother than ever before. As for doors hung on these tracks, there are a slew of designs to take from, ranging in price from extremely affordable to extremely expensive. There can be intricate stained glass inserts or just plain slabs of wood, depending on one's budget, and just how much privacy is required within a space.

The fact remains that a quality pocket door frame installation is one that comes with many rewards. Not only is it helpful and beautiful, for the current homeowners, it is also an investment that will pay itself off in the future. Many buyers appreciate quality construction and features like this one, so it is one feature that will draw attention from them. Such an installation will also help to reduce energy costs, which is yet another attractive feature for most homeowners.
